Hello BAC! We’re the Children’s Sunday School team! My name is Eddie Wong, and I am the coordinator. God has blessed us with a wonderful team of teachers and small group leaders who include:

While the pandemic presented challenges, especially for children’s ministry, it also became an opportunity to completely rethink the way we run Sunday School. I am extremely thankful to God for guiding us toward a cool new curriculum called “GO!” this year. The great thing about “GO!” is that it goes through the entire Bible in one connected sequence each year. The curriculum calls this the “Big Bible Story”. 

Each week, the kids first meet up in their pre-set small groups to catch up and get ready for the lesson. Then, they all come together into one large group for the lesson. After the lesson, they split back into small groups to complete some related activities. Instead of children being siloed into their grades for their entire childhood at church, they now have the opportunity to build cross-grade friendships. The small groups are mixed grades (two groups each of Gr. 1-3 and 4-6), and of course, they all meet together for the large group lesson. 

The “Big Bible Story” is split up into 12 units of 4 to 5 weeks. Each unit has a different theme, so that the kids get something fresh once in a while. Because the lesson is done in one large group, teachers can also have a break—the more teachers there are, the better! Additionally, both the large group lessons and small group activities are COMPLETELY planned out, including exactly what supplies are needed for that week. With such clear and thorough lesson plans, this curriculum is much friendlier to any current (or potential!) teachers and small group leaders. 

At the end of summer, we started with a total attendance of about 35. This figure has increased almost every week and we just passed 50 children last week. Although we are incredibly blessed by God to be entrusted with the care of all these little ones, we are stretched pretty thin right now. 

We currently have 3 teachers scheduled on rotation, and 5 small group leaders spread across 4 groups. As you can imagine, that doesn’t leave a lot of room for breaks! Our prayer is that we can add a couple more teachers to the rotation, and get to at least 2 leaders per small group, so that our small group leaders can have rotations to rest as well. We look forward to welcoming more of you to our team!
