Note to Parents:

For the longest time, The Fruit of The Spirit is presented to children as if it is actual fruit.  There are numerous children curriculum, songs and posters which linked the virtues Paul was referring to as apples, oranges and grapes.  The concept of growing fruit in our lives is quite metaphorical and unfortunately, we are not connected to the land as people were at the time this letter was written.  This word picture is so far beyond young children’s concrete thinking that they don’t get it at all. They get confused and ended up just memorizing the list with no real changes.  We tell them that they need to show the Fruit of the Spirit and often forget to tell them to plant by the Living Water.  What Paul is talking about here in Galatians 5 is when we plant ourselves deep in the life of God and in His Love our lives will look drastically different than the rest of the world.  It is not us who produce the Fruit, but the Spirit of God. The Fruit of the Spirit is a gift from God which enable us to live lives that pleases Him and show His love to those who don’t know Him.
