Fueling the Journey with Your Kids
As we mentioned in January, our goal this year is “Family Discipleship.” It is an ambitious goal that cannot be achieved through “programs” or a “good curriculum” alone. Rather, it requires collaboration between the Children’s Ministry and families to help our kids walk with Jesus.
We advocate for this wholeheartedly because we see that some older children in Grades 5 and 6 are already struggling to come to church. As they process life and begin forming their own values, they need to take ownership of their faith in order to commit to God — and understandably so.
Therefore, we urge parents not to simply drop off your children at programs. Instead, take time to understand what they are learning and help them practice it at home, so they learn not just to hear about Jesus, but to walk with Him. When you do this, you lay a strong spiritual foundation on which they can thrive and bear fruit for Christ.
With this in mind, we intentionally choose curricula that include take-home devotional materials to equip parents to walk alongside their children in their spiritual journey.
Preschool Sunday School (11:15 am – 12:45 pm)
Every Sunday, our coordinator sends home a craft for the children and their families. The craft ideas align with the lesson themes. Through these fun activities, parents not only connect with their children but also reinforce what they learned in Preschool Sunday School.
Junior Worship (9:30 am – 10:45 am / K–Grade 3)
We are using the Orange Curriculum. Each month, there is a theme and a memory verse.
The curriculum includes “Parent Cue” and “Devotional Sheets.”
In the “Parent Cue,” you will find:
Each week, we provide devotional sheets related to the lesson. There are two sets: one for Kindergarten–Grade 1 and another for Grades 2–3.
These devotional sheets offer practical ideas for living out our faith, along with helpful tips to guide you as you walk with your children. Some parents have already shared that they find them very useful and appreciate having practical guidance at home.
Children’s Worship (9:30 am – 10:45 am / Grades 4–6)
The devotional materials outline the weekly topic and theme, along with additional readings for five days of devotion (Day 1 to Day 5).
The materials also provide guidance for:
Each day’s passage includes thought-provoking questions that encourage children to dig deeper into Scripture. We encourage parents to read through the materials, share their own thoughts and experiences, pray with their children, and add ideas on how to apply the faith lessons in daily life.
Once again, we acknowledge how challenging it can be to help your children walk with Jesus. That is why we work diligently to source materials that fuel your journey. We deeply value partnering with you and supporting you as much as we can.
Please feel free to reach out and have conversations with us. We would love to hear from you. Mutual understanding and open communication will greatly strengthen our partnership as we serve your family together.
