September 2022
Loran Tang, recruiter and training coordinator of Children Ministry

In the blink of an eye, the summer was gone! I can imagine you all were quite stressed to get your kids ready for school. Hope things are well settled after a couple of weeks.

On top of these, we have another exciting news for parents – Popcorn Club. Popcorn is a trial program that aims to connect kids, parents, Children Ministry helpers together in this community. It will be held on the last Friday of each month from September to November. Cheryl Li will be instructing kids (6 to 12 years old) to do creative art projects while parents will be doing simple but fun activities together in an hour session.

Why are we doing this? Because we want to pull the families together. We want the families with young kids to walk their faith journeys together with Children Ministry as well as their peers in this community.

In the past years, many families were quite on their own when they had struggles in parenting. Also, Children Ministry workers could not connect well with parents when they only drop off and pick up kids. As your partner to raise godly kids, we need to know each other and work together!! The togetherness is essential for us.

Seeing the great needs to engage the parents, Cheryl created a fun platform for the families so that we can come out and have fun together. It is a very short session and only once a month in this trial period. However, if we see that helps to build up a solid and healthy community, which empowers parents and kids in their journeys, we would continue with more sessions in the future.

We are calling parents and Children Ministry helpers to participate in Popcorn Club. You all can join the sessions as parents or helpers. We need helpers to assist Cheryl in her art jamming and helpers/parents share their talents or hobbies with others at the parents’ gathering. Right now we have zentangle arts, cards making and Christmas center piece in line already. It is absolutely cool if you can share your hobbies with other parents as to create a positive and fun atmosphere so we can share without feeling intimidated!!! After some fun time, parents will pray together.

As up to now, the three Fridays are all full already. If you want to express your interests to join or to contribute next year, please contact Cheryl Li or me. We would love to have you in Popcorn!

Stay tuned. I will write more and provide pictures of our first meeting (Sep 30) in my blog later.
