Wow how time has flown, I did not realize it has been over 6 months since my last update!
Over the past few months I had the privilege to attend two conferences. The first was the BAM Canada Conference (pictured above) with a few colleagues, where we heard inspiring stories of how businesses around the world are living out Integral Mission in their workplaces. The second was the Christian Economic Development (CED) Summit in Washington, D.C., where I had the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded Christian NGOs focused on UN Sustainable Development Goal #8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. A highlight from last year’s CED Summit was connecting with an organization that shares our vision—this connection has since grown into a partnership that is now helping expand GAiN’s Economic Empowerment work to Sierra Leone (more on that below).
After two years of envisioning and planning, I’m excited that GAiN has launched a Savings Group ministry in Sierra Leone! We’ve hired three dedicated local staff—a Ministry Coordinator and two Field Coordinators—and over the past six months, they’ve completed three in-depth trainings (one pictured left) led by a like-minded consultant (pictured right).
The goal of the Savings Groups pilot is to support 40 local churches in the Makeni region of Sierra Leone. We aim to empower communities through the local church with a discipleship model that integrates biblical principles with financial inclusion. During weekly meetings, groups enable members to save money, access small loans, and invest in income-generating activities, fostering economic empowerment. Once the pilot phase is complete, we hope to expand the Savings Group ministry to more of the communities GAiN serves.
