Praise
  • As we begin the month of June, Festival of Sacrifice is being observed here. One Friday morning, we saw a goat tethered to a lamp post near a building at the corner of the street—a strange and unfamiliar sight to us. Shortly afterward, the goat was taken away. This experience reminded us once again of the unique culture of this desert land. In addition to learning about the local culture, we are also navigating the many different Chinese cultures and mindsets represented within the church.

  •

Time flies. It has been more than two months since we arrived here. We are thankful to God for allowing us to adapt physically, mentally and spiritually, and to build relationships with others.

  • We also visited a private school. We had a deep and meaningful conversation with some members of the school’s management.

  • We are deeply thankful for our Heavenly Father’s guidance, and for your faithful companionship as we walk this journey of faith together.

Prayer
  • Over the past few months, we have driven hundreds of kilometers, visited many churches, and met with different church leaders in hopes of obtaining our work visa. It has truly been a journey of faith, and waiting continues to be a lesson God is teaching us. Even when things seem to be going smoothly, we are reminded that only by the Spirit of God can anything be accomplished. Through our C&MA connection, we were introduced to an international church in another emirate.  We are prayerfully and cautiously moving forward with this opportunity. Pray that the Lord will open the way, that the visa application process will go smoothly, and that we will experience God's mighty hand at work throughout it all.

  •  May the Lord protect them and continue to send more much-needed workers in this land.

  • The church leaders have recognized the great need among the youth and teenagers. We have begun exploring the possibility of starting a youth fellowship at the local church beginning this September.  May God raise up mentors who can guide and care for them, and grant us wisdom and compassion to walk alongside these young lives.  Pray for God’s protection over the local church congregation — that they may have wisdom to discern between what is evil and what is godly, and be equipped to be salt and light for the Lord in this land.

  • We are planning to fly back to Canada for two weeks at the end of June to visit our family and celebrate Harry’s mom’s 90th birthday.  Please pray for safe travels, smooth logistics, and good health for Harry’s mom.

  • During the summer months, many people tend to leave here, and we are thankful that a godly couple, who will be away,  has graciously offered to host us in their home after our Canadian trip.  We will continue searching for a more long-term housing solution upon our return. May God provide.
